  • Just a couple of weeks ago, our CEO, Sharon Elliot returned from Ethiopia—a place that holds a special spot in our hearts. Sharon was able to witness the transformative work being done by our partners and communities. Sharon shares her experiences and meets the inspiring women working tirelessly to end female genital mutilation (FGM) and fistula survivors who are now champions of health in their communities. Your support makes all this possible. ❤️ However, the visit to Afar revealed a dire situation. Consecutive failed rainy seasons have led to severe drought, malnutrition, and thirst. Immediate aid is crucial. Sign up to receive our most recent appeal, and hear more about Sharon's travels to Ethiopia and learn how you can help - https://ethiopiaid.ca/ #Ethiopia #EmergencyAppeal #SupportEthiopia

  • Today, on International Nurses Day, we honor the incredible nurses whose expertise and compassion are transforming maternal health care and fistula treatment in Ethiopia. At Ethiopiaid Canada, our dedicated nurses, like the exemplary Dr. Ambaye, are at the forefront of offering life-changing medical support and care. Dr. Ambaye's relentless effort in training healthcare professionals and providing essential services has not only saved lives but also restored hope to many women suffering from obstetric fistula. Her work epitomizes the impact that skilled and compassionate nursing can have on individual lives and the broader community. Nurse Getu Tsegaye, working with the Simien Mountain Mobile Medical Clinic, is dedicated to delivering healthcare to rural communities. The team navigates challenging terrains to bring essential medical services directly to the people, and when necessary, transports patients and expectant mothers to hospitals using donkeys in areas inaccessible by vehicle. Join us in celebrating our heroes in nursing this #InternationalNursesDay. Your support allows us to continue this vital work, ensuring that every woman has access to the best healthcare possible. • In the quiet corners of Ethiopia, a story unfolds that is rarely told. Meseret, a young expectant mother, faced a heart-wrenching dilemma during childbirth – the risk of death or a life with obstetric fistula, a devastating and often preventable condition. Her story mirrors the plight of many women in rural Ethiopia, where the luxury of choice in childbirth is a distant dream. But amidst these narratives of despair, there are beacons of hope. Dr. Ambaye, a fistula surgery pioneer, is one such beacon. With skilled hands and a compassionate heart, she is not just treating fistula; she is restoring lives, dignity, and hope. Your support can illuminate the path to a third option – a world where safe childbirth is not a privilege but a right. Just $50 can contribute to the cost of these transformative surgeries and the comprehensive care that follows. Today, we invite you to be part of Meseret's story of hope and the stories of many women like her. Join us in turning the tide against obstetric fistula. 🔗https://lnkd.in/dkawBWmp #Ethiopiaid #HealingTogether #MakeADifference P.S.: In a world where "death or fistula" is a grim reality for many, let's offer a new narrative of life and health. Your donation makes this possible.
