Empowering Change: Tenagne's Journey

Tenagne, facing a walking disability and responsible for caring for a sibling, struggled to secure employment. Despite her relentless efforts to sell candies, clothes, barley, or chickpeas in local markets and restaurants, she barely scraped by, living in a makeshift shack. She and her sister relied on the kindness of community members for their sustenance.

Upon registering with the Cheshire credit cooperative, Tenagne embarked on a transformative path. She underwent a comprehensive three-day training course on initiating and managing a small business. During this training, she formed invaluable bonds with other women who faced similar challenges. After completing the program, Tenagne received an initial loan of $100, which she used to establish a small business specializing in selling vegetables, fruits, tea, and coffee. In just one year, she achieved financial stability.

Joining the local women’s revolving savings group further enhanced Tenagne’s financial independence. Through regular contributions, she built a sustainable savings fund. Her dedication and timely loan repayments led to her qualification for a second loan of $150, which she used to expand her business even further.

Today, Tenagne is self-sufficient and self-reliant. Her inspiring journey has not only transformed her life but also serves as a beacon of hope for other disadvantaged women in her community, demonstrating that with determination and support, one can overcome even the most formidable challenges.
