In the autumn of 1987, British businessman Sir Alec Reed made his first visit to Ethiopia. He saw what many people might expect - widespread hardship, suffering and poverty. However, he also saw passion, knowledge and ambition.
What he saw truly resonated with him and in 1989, Sir Alec set up the very first Ethiopiaid office in the UK. With Ethiopiaid’s help, local communities were able to use their passion, knowledge and ambition to create better futures for themselves and their families.
Over the next ten years, Ethiopiaid grew to have offices across the UK, Ireland, Canada and Australia.
To this day, we operate under a shared belief of working with and alongside Ethiopians to help them achieve the potential that so inspired Sir Alec Reed in 1987.
